Baylor's Gabe Hall Ready for 'Brotherhood' Defense to Hit the Gridiron

Bears Defensive End Gabe Hall excited about upcoming season, prepared to build upon last year's success

Following a 12-win season under Baylor coach Dave Aranda that set all sorts of program records, it's hard to imagine that the Bears' defense could be even more stout in 2022.

But somehow, that appears to be the case as the upcoming season looms.

"It's really exciting because I've never played with a stacked defense like this, especially defensive line," Baylor defensive end Gabe Hall said. "We push each other a lot more than I've ever been pushed in my life, and it's very exciting because it makes everybody better on the team."

Hall, a 6-6, 296-pound redshirt junior defensive lineman out of Waller, Texas, concluded the 2021 season with 18 total tackles (12 solo), seven tackles for loss, six sacks, three quarterback hurries and one forced fumble.

"The last couple years is crazy because we haven’t had a whole lot of older guys like this and we can all put our input in and get each other better," Hall said. "You can study film and be like, 'I think you can do this, I think you can do that.' It's like a brotherhood and it just makes us really strong."

So does Hall see the Baylor defense remaining on par compared to last season or continuing to build?

"We're still building. It's going to be way better than last year," Hall said. "I'm very excited about our pass rush and we've been putting an emphasis on that and getting better every day and it's going to be exciting."

Hall also believes the 2022 defensive group of Bears could be even scarier than the one Baylor fielded in 2021, especially considering how much they've grown together.

"Really, we are older now but it's also our bond," Hall said. "We're very close now. We've been through a lot of stuff, we've been through ups and downs. So we just know what to expect from each other and we push each other every day. And it's just amazing."

Hall and his defensive teammates also face one of the country's best offensive lines every day in practice, something the defensive end believes will help the team grow even stronger.

"I got to grow with them, with Connor Galvin," Hall said. "Because we were both young, I was a freshman and he was a sophomore. So as I've grown and gotten better, he's also grown and gotten better. So my game has to adapt every day. So I feel like, in practice we go against the best offensive line. So every day we're getting better, so once we go out there for games, we're prepared."
