Big Baylor Win to Begin Big 12 Play? Game Predictions for Week 4 at Iowa State

The staff of InsideTheBears.com gives their predictions for the battle between the Baylor Bears and Iowa State Cyclones

Following a nail-biting finish to last season’s showdown between Baylor and Iowa State, the Bears are slated to meet the Cyclones for a week four matchup in Ames, Iowa.

Week four will also mark the opening Big 12 Conference game for both teams, as Baylor and Iowa State battle it out on the gridiron after last year’s 31-29 Bears victory at McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas.

Will Baylor kick off conference play with a big win on the road, or will Iowa State spoil the Bears’ Big 12 opener?

Earlier this week, we previewed the Iowa State football team as a whole, then took a look at key offensive and defensive players to watch in the matchup between the Bears and Cyclones.

And now, it’s time for the Inside The Bears staff to make their preseason predictions for Baylor’s week four game at Iowa State.

Make sure to stick with InsideTheBears.com as we preview and analyze every opponent on the Bears schedule for the 2022 football season.

Ames is always a tough place to play, and if this turns out to be a night game, it will be even tougher. With that said, I think the Bears have the defense to withstand that kind of environment, and they should be the better team overall either way. It will be close, but I think the Bears take it in a nail biter.

Over the past two years, the Cyclones were one of the few surprises of college football. A Big 12 contender in 2020, expectations were high for Iowa State in 2021. Instead, the Cyclones finished an uneasy 7-6.

Goodbye Breece Hall. Goodbye Charlie Kolar. Goodbye Brock Purdy. Good luck, Iowa State.

This will be a true test for the Baylor football team as coach Dave Aranda and the Bears hit the road for a Big 12 showdown at Iowa State.

This game will likely be close from start to finish, but the Bears defense should be able to clamp down late to secure a big Baylor win over the Cyclones in Ames, Iowa.

The Baylor Bears open their conference schedule with the pleasure of going on the road to take on the Iowa State Cyclones. They escaped last season with a 31-29 victory, and while they should win again this year, expect it to be close.

The Bears are on a path to repeat as Big 12 champions, which will start in Ames, Iowa. Look for Baylor to hold off Iowa State and start conference play 1-0.

It's not just the loss of quarterback Brock Purdy that worries me about Iowa State. It's also the loss of running back Breece Hall and linebacker Mike Rose.

Iowa State will still be good, and a close game for the first 30 minutes won't surprise me. But Baylor pulls away on the strength of its defense.
