Baylor Ex Robert Griffin III Set to Replace NFL Legend on Monday Night Football

The 2011 Heisman winner is continuing his football legacy with the legendary primetime staple.

Former Baylor Bears quarterback and 2011 Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III will be taking on a role with ESPN's Monday Night Football coverage this season, per reports.

He'll be a voice on the MNF's pregame show, Monday Night Countdown, with a crew that includes Suzy Kolber, Steve Young, Booger McFarland, Adam Schefter, Michelle Beisner-Buck and Alex Smith.

Per reports from the New York Post, Griffin III will be taking over the void left by legendary NFL receiver Randy Moss, who is transitioning his focus to ESPN's pregame NFL coverage on Sunday mornings.

Despite his expanded role, Griffin III will still be an analyst in the broadcast booth for ESPN's college football coverage this season.

Griffin III was drafted No. 2 overall in 2012 by Washington and immediately became a star as a rookie, winning Rookie of the Year honors and leading the team to a 10-6 record, an NFC East Divisional title, and a playoff berth. It was the franchise's first postseason appearance since 2007.

Washington would lose in the Wild Card round to the Seattle Seahawks, as Griffin III suffered a torn ACL in the second half that would mark the beginning of a long string of injuries for him.

His career in Washington would end in 2015 before playing one year with the Cleveland Browns in 2015 and three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens from 2018-2020. He has remained unsigned following his stint in Baltimore.

Despite being under contract by ESPN, Griffin III has not officially announced his retirement from football and could sign a deal with a team in need if the opportunity presents itself.

Griffin III's first game of MNF coverage will be on Monday, Sept. 12 as the Denver Broncos visit the Seattle Seahawks.

Griffin III is Baylor's all-time leader in passing yards (10,366), passing touchdowns (78), total offensive yardage (12,620), and total touchdowns (111), while also being third in program history in rushing scores (33) and sixth in total rushing yards (2,254).
