Boston College Falls To Wake Forest 27-24

It was there. The chances were there. But again, Boston College found a way to stumble their way towards another loss. The Eagles offense was battling, but two drives meant the difference between a win and a loss for BC today. On one drive BC could have kicked a field goal, basically a chip shot but elected to go for it on 4th and 1 and failed to get the yard. On another drive they had a 41 yard field goal ready for Aaron Boumerhi, but got called for a delay of game that took them out of field goal range and led to a fire drill on a botched snap. Yet another example of a missed opportunity to beat a Top 25 team by Steve Addazio who's record drops to 1-20 against those teams.
BC's defense was a mixed bag throughout the nigh. On the one hand they held a prolific Wake Forest offense to only 27 points, definitely a step in the right direction. Whenever Bill Sheridan dialed up pressure they were able to fluster Jamie Newman, and ended up with two sacks almost doubling the season total. And against the run they were mediocre. However, the big knock was the inability to get off the field on third down. Wake went 17-24 on third down, a stat that would not end in many wins, and they did allow a handful of chunk plays including a 50 yard run by Jamie Newman. Jason Maitre, TJ Rayam, John Lamot all had strong outings for the defense.

The offense for the most part was solid, with over 500 yards against Wake. Anthony Brown threw two interceptions, but he made most of the passes he needed to especially after the slow start. AJ Dillon and David Bailey were fantastic, spelling each other, and running for a stout 203 yards between the two. Zay Flowers got back into the gameplan with a nice touchdown catch, and Addazio even dialed up the trick play with a HB pass from David Bailey to Chris Garrison for a touchdown.
But in the end it was questionable coaching calls, inability to finish drives and a defense that couldn't get off the field that doomed the Eagles. It definitely was a better outing then I expected, but in the end it turned out like so many close games with Steve Addazio often do, with disappointment.
