BC Maven Roundtable Predictions: Offensive MVP (Not Named A.J. Dillon)

For the next five days BC Maven is going to host a meeting of the BC minds, a roundtable of some of the most engaging BC personalities from across the internet to talk about the upcoming Boston College season. Let's meet the motley crew:
HoyaEagle: Brainwashed since birth by grandpa to adore all things Boston College, I’m just a fanboy who occasionally writes his thoughts about all things #SOAR either on my blog or my twitter feed, @HoyaEagle. And before you look at my Twitter name and start asking about my allegiances, Boston College > Georgetown.
4th And Dude:@4thandDude is comprised of two roommates from the Class of 2013 who have been BC diehards for life, despite their 4 years on the Heights coinciding with the Spaz era. Hosts of the award-winning “Lotta Dudes” podcast, Matt and Matt hop on the mic once a week to provide Eagles fans with game recaps, opponent previews, completely unbiased predictions, and a whole bunch of Guys being Dudes in between. Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, it’s a Dude Alert!
Dan Rubin: Feature writer for Eagles Unlimited, a part of BCEagles.com, providing football analysis and coverage all season long. Beyond football, there are always some really great stories to be had for some amazing coaches, staff members and student-athletes, and I’m incredibly lucky to bring those up and out for public viewing. You can follow me at @BCDanRubin.
Eagle in Atlanta: Editor and writer for his site Eagle in Atlanta, you can follow him on Twitter @BCATLEagle
Heights And Lows: Formerly had time to be a blogger, now just a snarky member of Section A. The Heights and Lows came from the fact that there were two of us and one of us used to be the more optimistic one. We basically just tweet over at @BC_Heights_Lows these days, but we have fun with it.
Eric Hoffses: Former BC football and basketball writer for EagleAction and BCI. Owner of @HoffaBBQ (Ed. seriously check them out the food looks delicious.
A.J. Black: Editor of BCMaven, lifelong BC fan, you can follow him on Twitter @BCHysteria, the site @Maven_BC, or check them out on Instagram @BCeaglesmaven
Now onto to the first topic: Pick an MVP on Offense, Not Named AJ Dillon.
4th And Dude: Anthony Brown / Mike Bajakian. Everywhere Coach Jake has gone, from Central Michigan to Cincinnati to Tennessee to Tampa Bay, he has instantly elevated the level of QB play. There is no question that AB’s got a live arm and can sling the rock. His issues – reading progressions, inconsistent accuracy, throwing short of the sticks on 3rd down, slow starts on the road – are largely fixable. With opposing defenses keyed in on Dillon, and weapons like Kobay, Glines, the tight ends and a loaded stable of young, athletic wideouts, Tony Touchdowns will have a ton of opportunities to exploit one-on-one matchups downfield, and as Coach Jake says, “turn those receivers into ball carriers.” This hire was exactly what the doctor ordered, and has the potential to revolutionize BC’s throw game as we know it.
HoyaEagle: It’s gotta be Anthony Brown. We saw such great improvement from Brown from his freshman year to his sophomore year and from early reports from fall camp, #13 taking his game to another level for his junior year doesn’t just seem possible - it seems likely. Especially if he can just improve his biggest weakness: his accuracy/completion percentage. Last year, Brown ranked 91st out of 107 qualifying passers in completion percentage at 55.4%. Woof. But even just improving that number by a few points, say up to 60%, will do wonders for BC’s offense and team. With a host of weapons in the backfield, at tight end and wide receiver, there’s no reason Brown can’t take a legitimate leap and be one of the best QBs in the conference. I’m betting (hoping?) he does.
Dan Rubin: It goes without saying that AJ Dillon is probably the biggest factor in the offense, but Anthony Brown is such a critical X-factor. BC went 5-1 when he completed more than 50% of his in-game passes (he was exactly 50% against Florida State) and went 5-1 when he did not throw an interception (ignoring the Holy Cross and Clemson games where he threw a combined five passes). He’s one of the best statistical quarterbacks already in BC history, but he lives under a microscope for a mysterious variety of reasons. There’s a case that he’s potentially the best returning ACC quarterback not named Trevor Lawrence.
Eagle in Atlanta: If anyone other than Anthony Brown is the non-Dillon offensive MVP, this season is a mess. Every opponent will be lined up to stop the run. It will be on Brown to get the ball out and to the right guys. If he can't as a Jr, then Addazio's Offense has failed.
Heights And Lows: If we’re doing the no AJ Dillon rule, then I’m going with Ben Petrula. Petrula has to fill the shoes of 2019 first rounder Chris Lindstrom on the anchor of the offensive line. If Dillon and Brown are going to do what we expect them to be capable of this year, it’s going to be because they are getting running room and time. Petrula has worked his way through the line over the last few years and is getting pre-season All-ACC love. There’s a ton of talent on this line, and the Junior stands to be the leader - with high prospects for himself in the ‘21 draft.
Eric Hoffses: I’m going with Kobay White, who was the projected breakout star last season. White fell short of most fans’ goals as he had one less reception, and only an increase of 103 yards and a touchdown from his freshman season. I believe if Anthony Brown is going to have a big year than White has to as well because I don’t see a receiver with as high of a ceiling as him.
AJ Black: Obviously my first choice would have been AJ Dillon, but if I have to pick someone else it’s going to be Anthony Brown. I think Mike Bajakian is going to tweak the offense just enough to help Brown with his intermediate and shorter passes, which in turn will make AB a very good quarterback. Brown clearly has the tools to be a good ACC quarterback, but he is going to need to cut back on some of his mistakes that he has made. I think this will be the year that he does it, and takes Boston College’s offense to the next level.
Now it is time for you to pick, who do you think will be the offensive MVP this season?
