Takeaways From Boston College's First Practice

What happened today at Fish Field House?

Boston College held their first practice of the summer session today at the Fish Indoor Field House. Practices start with a five day acclimation period that all schools are required to do which include practicing without pads. The practice was not open to the public, but BC Athletics released some notes that I thought had some interesting tidbits for BC football fans.

* The quarterback depth chart appears to have a name that many BC fans might not be aware of. Redshirt sophomore Dennis Grosel has been impressing many, and could be 2a or 2b on the depth chart. From sources I have talked to they have been impressed with his arm and his ability to navigate in the pocket.

* Isaiah McDuffie is indeed still not ready for camp, as he had injured his knee during spring practices. According to the reports redshirt freshman Joe Sparacio was mentioned with other two presumed starters Max Richardson and John Lamot.

* I'll post Addazio's comments below, but it sounds like he has five offensive lineman that he is high one, maybe his starting five? "Offensively, John Phillips has developed into a really bona fide leader on the offensive line. Alec Lindstrom is incredible. Tyler Vrabel solidified himself at left tackle, he’s a hell of a player. Of course, Ben Petrula and Anthony Palazzolo did a nice job. The tight ends, these guys are very experienced guys now. "

Addazio's quotables from practice #1:

“On defense, Brandon Barlow and [Marcus] Valdez on the defensive line. Tanner Karafa, of course, is a solid player. Linebackers, Max [Richardson] and John Lamot, Joe Sparacio because [Isaiah] McDuffie was hurt in spring. Joe really took a step forward. Brandon Sebastian solidified at corner. Tate Haynes took a big step in spring ball, big step. Offensively, John Phillips has developed into a really bona fide leader on the offensive line. Alec Lindstrom is incredible. Tyler Vrabel solidified himself at left tackle, he’s a hell of a player. Of course, Ben Petrula and Anthony Palazzolo did a nice job. The tight ends, these guys are very experienced guys now. With Korab Idrizi and [Chris] Garrison and [Jake] Burt and Hunter Long, we’ve got plenty of guys and they’re experienced guys. The tailbacks have really emerged. I think Ben Glines and Travis Levy are two guys that have just popped since the season ended last year. It’s hard not to recognize those guys. They’ve really popped. They’re receivers and running backs – they’re going to be real factors. Not that they weren’t a year ago, because they were. Travis Levy helped us beat Virginia Tech on the road. I think we’re really going to see those two guys pop.”

Thanks to Young Kim for the photo from practice as well. He takes great shots, please follow him on Twitter for more of his photos @young_k1m
