Insider Prospective: Previewing Wake Forest Football With Writer Cameron Lemons Debro

Today to preview this weekend's BC/Wake Forest game we chatted with Cameron Lemons DeBros of SBNation's Blogger So Dear. You can check him out on Twitter, and his site as well
AJ:. Jamie Newman has been quite the revelation so far this year. What has impressed you the most about his game?
Cam: It's weird to say given how big he is but just how durable he's been. In the past I know he's struggled with an injury or two but this year he has been taking hit after hit, mowing over people and even taking a huge hit from a LB and making it into an insane 1 yard gain. Quietly injuries have been a thing over the last few years for the QB and it feels refreshing to not worry about that right now. *knocks on every piece of wood in my home*
AJ: Dave Clawson has put together an impressive offensive scheme at Wake. Talk about the kind of gameplan he puts together on the offensive side of the ball.
Cam: Warren Ruggiero is a freaking wizard man. The entire thing of slowing down the mesh point and essentially walking down to the OL before making a decision is bonkers, but so bonkers that it makes so much sense. You want to see what the defense is committing to and our RBs are good enough to hit just about any space the OL opens up and Jamie has the arm talent and reactions to hit any of the WRs wherever they are on the field. The gameplan is really just balance. There are so many weapons and so much depth everywhere that if we want to have a few drives just running it there's not a huge drop off. If we want to throw the ball all game we can. So many options!
AJ: Suge Surratt and Scotty Washington are two towering wide receivers that both eclipse 6'3. What do they bring to this offense?
Cam: I have a running joke with a buddy of mine that Scotty can't catch the ball unless its a 50/50 ball or less. While he has had his fair share of drops, both of these guys really instill safety and excitement for this offense. They also do a great job of just stretching the field and allowing a (healthy) Kendall Hinton, Jaquarri Roberson, Jack Freudenthal, to really do whatever they want over the middle of the field because you have to respect the deep ball with both of them.
AJ: The defense hasn't been elite, but has done what it needs to do. Who are some players Eagles fans should watch out.
Cam: It starts and ends with Boogie Basham on the DL. The guy is an absolute animal when it comes to getting to the quarterback. He'd flash from time to time last year but man has he started turning it on this year. I'd be an idiot if I didn't mention Justin Strnad. The senior LB has 40 tackles and he's played about 12 quarters. He's been everywhere on the field and is just so good at recognizing what's going on on the field. Lastly, one of the #BermudaBoys Essang Bassey. People haven't heard his name since his preseason accolades because, well no one wants to target him. He essentially takes away half of the field which makes everyone's job just a lot easier.
AJ: The one big weakness for this team is......
Cam: It's weird but really special teams has been a very meh area all around. Too many touchbacks on punts, fumbles when fielding kicks, not kicking it where it's unreturnable on kickoffs. Penalties bringing back big runs. Just so many issues. The saving grace has been FGs and XPs as Sciba has been automatic but we need to clean the rest of it up
AJ: Wake wins this game if they....
Cam: Continue to run the same offense they have been all weekend and the defense gets pressure on Anthony Brown. I would say limit Dillon but I don't live in a fairytale land just contain and don't let him go for 250 and 3 TDs
AJ: Wake loses this game if they.....
Cam: The defense reverts back to last year: no pass rush AND not being within 10 yards of a receiver and letting them walk into the endzone. Offensively, Jamie starts pressing too much and forces balls where they shouldn't go and into the hands of BC.
AJ: How are fans feeling about Wake's first Top 25 ranking since 2008?
Cam: It's electric right now but it's a feeling of everyone wants more. There's been nothing but upward trajectory with Clawson at the helm but now instead of just get 6 wins and a bowl, why stop there? Continue to go 1-0 every week, produce, and see how high we can get.
AJ: Prediction time, what have you got?
Cam: Wake is a 6.5 point favorite in a game with a 71.5 O/U. I think Wake holds up their end of the bargain in terms of points and the spread but I think at a certain point the pass russ starts getting to Anthony Brown and forces him into mistakes and if you're down two scores in the second half you cant just ride the running game. While I don't think Wake has a field day and puts up 50, I don't see this BC defense having answers for every single playmaker on this team.
