Wake Forest 27 Boston College 24: Stock Report

Boston College couldn't find a way to win yesterday as they let a winnable game slip from their grasps. But in terms of individual performances who had a strong game, and who didn't?
Stock Rose
Jason Maitre: After Tate Haynes struggled with Scotty Washington, Bill Sheridan made the change to the younger Maitre at corner. He had a strong game, was credited with one pass break up, and brought a swagger to the position that was welcome to see. The Everett product looks ready to be the everyday starter across from Brandon Sebastian moving forward
AJ Dillon/David Bailey: I thought the way that Steve Addazio rotated the pair was good but I would like to see Bailey get a few more carries moving forward. He brings fresh legs out there and runs really hard, and as we saw can catch AND throw the ball. The more that the staff can balance Dillon/Bailey the more effective they both will be.
Max Richardson: No more talk of when, he has become the play maker in the defense. He picked up BC's first sack in three games, and constantly was a disruptive force. He is a difference maker out there, and hopefully when Isaiah McDuffie comes back they will have a trio of linebackers who can mask some of the deficits up front.
John Lamot: The ACC Network couldn't stop talking about Lamot and his cousin Wake Forest QB Jamie Newman, and their friendly rivalry. But it's hard to argue that he didn't take his play up a notch. He finished with a team leading 17 tackles, and provided a real physical presence on every play. Only issue I have seen with him is that he struggles in coverage, he's not the fastest LB and can get burned by faster wide outs.
TJ Rayam: BC was stout up the middle yesterday, and Wake really struggled to get anything going consistently straight up the gut. Yes Wake Forest almost ran for 200 yards, but it was on 54 carries, a paltry 3.6 yards per carry. Rayam is turning into a real player on that defense, as he continues to grow he should be really fun to watch.

STOCK FELL
Bill Sheridan: Mark Herzlich talked about it the whole game, when BC brought pressure they were able to slow down Jamie Newman, but when they sat back in zone they got picked apart. Hence Wake going 17/24 on third down. Sheridan has to seriously look at the third down defense because it killed them on Saturday.
Travis Levy: Credit when credit is due, he had an excellent kick return in the second half that set up BC with great field position. However he was struggling to hold on to the ball when he fielded them, and right now sits 7 out of 9 in the ACC in eligible kick returners. BC needs good field position, and right now they haven't found that in Levy.
Tate Haynes: I would chalk this up to a tough matchup in Scotty Washington, but he has struggled the past three games. I wouldn't give up on him yet (remember last year people wanted Brandon Sebastian benched), but BC needs to win now and Jason Maitre probably gives them the best chance.
Steve Addazio: This game hurt. And the reason it hurt was because the Eagles had this game and still found a way to lose it. The defense for the most part was able to prevent big plays, they held Wake to 27 points, the offense racked up 500 plus yards, all of which if you asked me on Friday I would have been elated to hear. However, BC couldn't finish drives, they botched a field goal attempt caused by poor clock management that proved to be the difference, and made mental errors that killed them. How many more presnap penalties can this OL get? These are all on Addazio. And they have been the same mistakes BC has made for the past seven years. We know what we are going to get with Coach Addazio in Year 7, and in games like this his choices more often than not hurt the Eagles chances to win.
