Kobay White: Long Pass Play Happened Because Of Coaching

It was one of those moments that you said to yourself "Wow, BC has a strong passing offense". Early in the first quarter, only minutes after Zay Flowers had his first touchdown pass, the Eagles were stuck in a 3rd and long. Last year, the odds were great that they would have failed to convert this, but this year Brown who was flushed out of the pocket after the blocking broke down (he really had all day, it wasn't bad protection) hits Kobay White with a 56 yard bomb, and Alumni Stadium erupted. (Watch the play here!)

Kobay White this week had some interesting takes on why this play happened. The most interesting part was that new offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian had drilled into the team what to do in these situations over the summer. Below White talks about how the wide receivers were drilled on what to do if Anthony Brown scrambles one way or another and that it was almost instinctual for the receivers. It looked that way on this play, as White clearly knew what to do and Brown knew where to throw it.

For a team that wants to improve in the "throw game", these little attention to details could take their offense to the next level. It appears that Mike Bajakian has tuned the offense to be more effective in the passing game, and now has some weapons to implement that with Hunter Long, Zay Flowers and White all having big games. And if what White says is true, there could be even more talent ready to contribute at wide receiver sooner rather than later.
