Boston College vs. Wake Forest: A Second Viewing Film Study (Powered By WePlayed)

While watching a game, sometimes you get caught up in the action and miss some of the little nuances and players that make the game go the way it did. On Saturday, Boston College lost to Wake Forest and all the talk after the game was about the difficulties on third down on defense and Steve Addazio's failure to call timeout before a delay of game was called. But what else happened out there? To get a better sense, I used WePlayed a website that allows you to rewatch games and make notes and create highlights. Check out my notes as I watched the game up on the site now. You can comment back and leave your own highlights (or lowlights) as well!
Later this week I will also preview Louisville's game against Florida State and Notre Dame to give some analysis on Boston College's opponent on Saturday.
* AJ Dillon had a tremendous game. I counted about six really strong runs, along with a huge catch in the fourth quarter. I know I had wrote about wanting to see more of David Bailey, but Dillon showed again that he can be the offense on his own. He showed some speed that I haven't seen out of him in a few weeks, there were a handful of plays where he exploded past the line of scrimmage and was into the second level quickly. There was some talk about how effective he was to the outside, which he was, but I thought he was strong up the middle as well, especially in the second half.
* Anthony Brown had three to four throws that I would consider "bad". His second interception he never looked off his receiver and make it really easy for the defensive back, and on another he threw a pass that was almost intercepted. Otherwise he was efficient, he zipped in a bunch of passes, most for longer gains.

* Brandon Sebastian is about as lockdown as they come. He made a pair of pass defenses that were incredible.
* The third down conversions were painful, and the failures fell into two categories. One was 3rd and longer, which Jamie Newman hit a handful of times, but what was more common was 3rd and short. While it was frustrating to see Bill Sheridan mostly play a softer zone, it was BC's inability to prevent Wake from moving the ball on 1st and 2nd down that doomed them. They just couldn't keep them from getting 3rd and 1 or 2, and when it's that short and Wake has a QB like Newman, stops are going to be hard to come by.
* Let's address the delay of game call, which you can watch again here. There are two points that need to be made here. It looks like Boumerhi is ready to kick with 8 seconds on the play clock, but the ball is never snapped and it looks like he re-sets up again as he waits for Alec Lindstrom to snap the ball. The timing is really off, just watching you can tell it's off, which makes Steve Addazio's failure to call timeout even more odd.
*Scotty Washington is legit. His size alone is going to make him an NFL wide receiver, but he also showed some good hands.
* TJ Rayam had a big game, which they needed against an option attack. He was physically imposing, ran through blockers and had some hard hits on the ball carriers. Really impressed with his play. The other defender that seems to grow every week is Max Richardson.
*Wake really never got any pressure on Anthony Brown, while BC when they chose to blitz disrupted Jamie Newman. BC needs to continue to dial up some of this pressure because when they sat back they got picked apart. Clearly they can't blitz all the time or good quarterbacks will rip them to shreds, but they need to bring the heat more often then not.
