Three BYU Players Named to All-Big 12 Second Team

On Wednesday, the Big 12 conference announced the all-conference selections for the 2023 football season. Three BYU players were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team. 

Junior defensive lineman Tyler Batty was the second-team defensive end while sophomore offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia was the second-team offensive tackle. Additionally, punter Ryan Rehkow was the second-team punter.

Seven other Cougars were honorable mentions for postseason awards this year. 

  1. Tyler Batty was an honorable mention for defensive player of the year and defensive lineman of the year. 
  2. Eddie Heckard was an honorable mention for All-Big 12 and defensive newcomer of the year. 
  3. Darius Lassiter was an honorable mention for offensive newcomer of the year.
  4. Kamden Garrett, Paul Maile, Jakob Robinson, and Max Tooley were honorable mentions on the All-Big 12 teams.

Defensive Freshmen of the Year - Anthony Hill Jr. LB (Texas) & Ben Roberts LB (Texas Tech)

Special Teams Player of the Year - Austin McNamara P (Texas Tech)

Offensive Lineman of the Year - Cooper Bebe OL (Kansas State)

Defensive Lineman of the Year - Byron Murphy II DL (Texas)

Coach of the Year - Mike Gundy (Oklahoma State)
