Jared Goff's Big Game Pushes Lions' Record to 4-1

The Detroit Lions continue to look like a playoff-caliber team, and the play of former Cal quarterback Jared Goff is a major reason why.
Goff passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Lions to a 42-24 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. That win boosts the Lions record to 4-1 and keeps them in sole possession of first place in the NFC Central Division.
Overall Goff was 20-for-28 for 236 yards, three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 132.4 passer rating on Sunday. For the season, Goff has completed just under 70% of his passes (69.8%) with nine touchdowns and three interceptions.
Two of her scoring passes went to tight end Sam LaPorta:

The Lions added some spice to their offense with this play when the center snapped the ball between Goff's legs to a running back.

Goff ran 1 yard for another touchdown as he accounted for four of Detroit's touchdowns.
The game was a matchup of No. 1 overall draft picks, and Goff, the top pick in 2016, showed his experience and superiority over Bryce Young, the No. 1 selection in the 2023 draft who went 25-for-41 and threw three touchdown passes but also had two passes intercepted.
Next week, the Lions face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
