Jared Goff Tells Derek Carr 'There's Life on the Other Side'

Former Cal quarterback Jared Goff can empathize with Derek Carr’s situation and uncertain future, and he reportedly told Carr “There’s definitely life on the other side.”
Carr will either be released or traded by the Raiders, the team for whom he has been the starting quarterback for all of his nine NFL seasons. Being pushed aside by his only NFL team and heading elsewhere can be hard on a player’s ego.
But the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that Carr had a conversation during Pro Bowl week with Goff, who knows just how Carr feels.
Goff was unloaded by the Rams, the team that drafted him and the team he took to a Super Bowl, and sent to the Lions, where he was seen merely as a stop-gap solution at quarterback. But he led the Lions to eight wins in their last 10 games and a 9-8 record this past season, his second in Detroit. Goff finished seventh in the NFL in passer rating in what may have been his best NFL season. Now Goff is seen as a key to Detroit's 2023 playoff aspirations.
Goff told Carr his new team could provide a pleasant surprise.
“Often times a really great life,” Goff told the Review-Journal on Saturday at Allegiant Stadium, during practice for Sunday’s Pro Bowl flag football game.
Goff noted the wide range of emotions after being dismissed.
“You go through all of them,” Goff said.
And it’s possible that things can turn out better
“There’s definitely life on the other side,” Goff said.
Goff presented that message to Carr during Pro Bowl week.
“We had a really good talk about it earlier this week,” Goff said. “I think his head is in a great place about it, whatever ends up happening with him.”
Goff finished tied for second in the Precision Passing competition earlier in the week at the NFL Pro Bowl skills competition, and he was one of the NFC's quarterbacks in the flag football games played Sunday. The NFC ultimately came out on top overall.
