Less than a week after the end of spring football practice, three Cal players have entered the transfer portal: tight end Elijah Mojarro, defensive back Fatu Iosefa and punter Ethan Baxter.

None of the three was expected to be a starter in 2023.  Cal will probably bring in several transfers before the strt of the 2023 season, and is likely to add a quarterback transfer.

The most important of the three probably is Mojarro. He had eight catches for 78 yards this past season as a redshirt junior, and figured to play a bigger role in 2023 with the departures of tight ends Jermaine Terry II (to Oregon State) and Keleki Latu (to Nevada).

However, Oregon State transfer J.T. Byrne seemed to get most of the first-team work during the spring, and Mojarro as listed as the fifth tight end on Cal's post-spring depth chart.  Mojarro announced on twitter than he will enter the portal.

Baxter seemed to be running a distant second to Tulsa transfer Lachlan Wilson in the battle for the starting punter spot.  Wilson had a outstanding career at Tulane and was expected to be the Bears' punter for 2023 as soon as a became a Cal student midway through the 2022-23 school year. The 247 Sports website reported that Baxter has entered the portal.

Fatu Iosefa is the younger brother of Cal inside linebacker Mo Iosefa. Fatu, a reshirt sophomore, was listed as a third-team safety in the recent post-spring depth chart. He did not record any statistics in the 2022 season, and is listed as being in the transfer portal by the 247 Sports website.
