Could former Cal administrator Teresa Gould be a candidate to replace Kliavkoff?

A move that had been anticipated for months apparently is finally underway. Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury-News reported Tuesday that the Pac-12 has begun the process of separating from commissioner George Kliavkoff.

What is particularly interesting to Cal folks is that Wilmer suggests that former Cal administrator Teresa Kuehn Gould, currently the Pac-12’s deputy commissioner, is a possible choice to be named the conference’s interim commissioner or perhaps a permanent commissioner of whatever the Pac-12 will look like starting in 2024-25.

Nothing is official yet, but it appears the Pac-12 will make an announcement in the near future.

Wilner’s report starts with this excerpt:

The Pac-12 has begun the process of separating from commissioner George Kliavkoff, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The move has been anticipated since the Pac-12 collapsed on Aug. 4, when five schools bolted for other leagues after Kliavkoff failed to negotiate a satisfactory media rights contract.

Later in the report, Wilner adds this:

Teresa Gould, the Pac-12’s deputy commissioner, is well respected by the schools and considered a likely option — not only as an interim commissioner through the spring but perhaps to manage a scaled-down version of the conference for the 2024-25 school year and beyond.

Gould earned her masters degree in education at Cal and served in the Cal athletics department from 2001 to 2014. She worked in a number of positions at Cal, including deputy athletics director and chief of staff to the athletic director.

She was also the interim athletic director at UC Davis from 2015 to 2016.
