The 2023 Instagram income of former Cal star Alex Morgan is projected to be six times more than any other women’s soccer player in the world, according to data compiled by betting.com, a United Kingdon betting and historical analysis site.

Betting.com’s analysis estimates that Morgan will earn $637,027 in Instagram income in 2023. That is based on $26,532 average earnings on each Instagram post. Both Morgan’s projected 2023 Instagram earnings and her average earnings per post are more than six times the projected Instagram earnings of Alexia Putellas of Spain, who is the second-highest projected Instagram earner among all female soccer players. Megan Rapinoe is third, but she and Morgan are the only two Americans among the top 10.

The instagram earnings are still just a small portion of Morgan's annual income.

In December 2022, Forbes ranked Morgan as the 19th-highest-paid female athlete in the world in 2022. It calculated Morgan earned $5.7 million in 2022, with about $5 million of that coming from endorsement.

Much of the earning power stems from the increased interest in women’s sports. BBC Sport reported that the amount of time the average viewer spent watching women's sports in 2022 was more than double the 2021 figure, according to research from the Women's Sport Trust (WST).

The 33-year-old Morgan, who has a 2-year-old daughter, remains one of the top players worldwide. She was in the starting lineup for the U.S. Women’s National Team that defeated Ireland 1-0 in a friendly played on Tuesday (April 11) in St. Louis. And she is expected to be a key component of the Americans’ bid to win a third straight Women’s World Cup when the 2023 World Cup is competed in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 through August 20. The American play their first match July 21.

Morgan currently plays for the San Diego Wave of the National Women’s Soccer League. She has scored three goals in the Wave’s first two matches this season, and San Diego won both.

Morgan helped the U.S. win its third consecutive CONCACAF title last summer, and she was awarded the golden ball as the tournament's best player. She helped the Americans qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in that event. She scored the game-winner on a penalty kick in a 1–0 victory over Canada in the final. Morgan also scored two goals in the opening match against Haiti.

Morgan is the author of a 12-book series titles “The Kicks,” designed to inspire girls, and she published a memoir “Breakaway” in 2015. In 2021 Morgan founded the media company Togethxr.

Here is a explanation of the methodology used by betting.com in compiling its Instagram income data:

A seed list of the top 100 female footballers was used to compile the list. The tool Instagram Influencer Sponsored Post Money Calculator was then used to find the average earnings per post (the lowest and highest earnings per post was taken and averaged). We then used Instagram to find the number of sponsored posts so far for each athlete in 2023. This was then multiplied by four to find the predicted earnings for 2023.
