Clemson Football Injury Updates for Week 9

There have been some developments with key players for Clemson and their potential to play against N.C. State

As surprising as it may be to some the Clemson football team does have more games remaining on the schedule and the season isn't actually over yet. The Tigers are getting ready to play the North Carolina State Wolfpack this Saturday but some players that fans are used to seeing on the field may not be available for this one.

Dabo Swinney spoke to reporters earlier this week and gave an update and several players and their potential availability for this needed bounce-back game.

Defensive end Justin Mascoll left the game against Miami with an undisclosed injury and his status is still up in the air.

  • "Not sure yet," Swinney said. "Today is the first day in pads so we'll see where he is. I'd say he's day to day."

Wide receiver Antonio Williams just made it back onto the field after an ankle injury kept him out multiple games but it appears as if he's picked up something else, his toe was mentioned, that will, frustratingly, have him miss significant time again.

  • Swinney said, "The only guy I can say is definitely out right now is Antonio. He's going to be out for a while, unfortunately." He later told reporters that it would be at least a few weeks but that they may have him back by the end of the season if he responds well.

Starting safety R.J. Mickens will also miss this week as he had appendicitis and underwent surgery on Monday to have his appendix removed.

  • "He'll be fine but he's gotta heal up. I don't know if anybody in here has had appendicitis but that's a tough break for us for sure."

*It should be noted that some of these injuries along with the current record of the team will allow some younger players to start getting more opportunities so coaches can understand what they have for next season. Freshman TJ Parker and Tyler Brown and sophomore Sherrod Covil Jr. are listed as the guys next in line to step up.
