Dabo Swinney rips into fan during radio show

The Clemson head coach didn't hold back when answering a question on his coaches show

Tempers are high at Clemson University these days and even for someone who prides himself on holding it together, like head coach Dabo Swinney, no one is immune to the constant barrage of negative media and angry fans when things start to go downhill.

A caller, "Tyler from Spartanburg", asked Swinney how he justifies his $11.5 million contract with the team currently 4-4.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney.

Clemson's twelve-season streak with at least ten wins ended with the loss on Saturday.

To be fair to the head man that's a loaded question for anyone to answer but he responded with some uncommon zeal, "You're part of the problem...If you wanna apply for the job, go for it. And good luck to you... To answer your question, I started as the lowest-paid coach in this business... I worked my ass off. I'm not gonna let this smart-ass kid get on the phone and tell me how to do my job. I work for the board of trustees."

It's radio so there's no proof of any dropped jaws from the others in the room with Swinney at the time but it's fairly obvious that all of the recent criticism has gotten under his skin.

That answer wasn't the only eyebrow-raising response that Dabo gave during his show. He also stated, "We're 4-4 and no disrespect to the opponents we've played but we've lost to Clemson four times."

Swinney said he's "Got at least 15 years left."

As far as this season goes he also responded to calls for quarterback Cade Klubnik to be benched and said there hasn't been a reason yet for Klubnik to sit but "That's not to say it won't happen."
