Former Clemson Quarterback Drafted by the Dodgers

DJ Uiagalelei was selected by the Dodgers during the 2023 MLB Draft.

In a career that has been filled with plenty of twists and turns, former Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei's latest surprise may just be the most unexpected of all. The current Oregon State Beaver made news this week not for any offseason workouts or anything throwing darts on the football field but for being drafted in the 20th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It's unknown at this time if the former 5-star prospect from Bellflower, California was expecting to be drafted or if he would even consider an offer to join the baseball club from his home state. It would likely have to be a heck of an offer considering all the effort Uiagalelei has given to continuing his football career going from one side of the country playing high school in California over to Clemson, and then back again all the way to Corvallis, Oregon.

Uiagalelei does have a Perfect Game profile from back in 2020 and was ranked as the number 500 overall prospect and the 282nd right-handed pitcher in the country. Out of his home state of California, he earned the ranking of 104th overall player and 31st best right-handed pitcher. It's been reported that Uiagalelei had a solid fastball that topped out around 90 mph. Even though he was mostly known for his pitching in high school he was listed as a two-way player when drafted.
