Will Shipley Feeling the "Disrespect"
Clemson football finds itself in a unfamiliar position as it enters spring practice. The Tigers, one of the most dominant teams of the College Football Playoff era, aren’t being discussed as one of the top contenders in the nation. A team that has two national championships in the past seven years seems to be on the outside looking in.
Following a disappointing end to the regular season that saw Clemson fall to South Carolina, and a blowout loss to Tennessee in the Orange Bowl, there’s a buzz around college football that the Tigers’ run may be coming to an end. Add that to the fact that 2023 will feature some great teams - Georgia going for three in a row, Caleb Williams with another year at USC, Ohio State and Michigan trying to get over the hump - and you can see how the eyes of the sport could start to wonder.
Well, to at least one Clemson player, the “disrespect” hasn’t gone unnoticed. Will Shipley, the All-ACC running back, return specialist, and all-purpose player, took to Twitter to let his thoughts on the situation be heard.
Shipley is entering his third season as a Tiger. After a stellar sophomore campaign in which he totaled 1,424 yards from scrimmage, Shipley has already surpassed 2,000 total yards for his career. 2023 has a chance to be his best yet.
Clemson brought in offensive coordinator Garrett Riley from TCU to revamp the offense. Riley isn’t afraid to feed his backs. Keandre Miller, TCU’s starting back, had 224 carries in 14 games, and came just a yard short of 1,400 on the ground. His backup, Emari Demercado, went for 681 yards on 121 carries.
Expect big things from Shipley in what is likely his last season in the orange and white.
