Duke coach David Cutcliffe seems comfortable with turning his offense over to quarterback Quentin Harris.

“Quentin is playing like a fifth-year senior right now,” Cutcliffe said in last week’s conference call. “He’s gotten better every day. The more he is the starter, the more reps he has taken, his consistency has gone way up. The thing that Quentin has done the best is physically thrown the ball this camp.”

On his weekly TV show, Cutcliffe expanded on his quarterback.

“The most important thing is for Quentin to be Quentin, to be comfortable with who he is. He throws the ball really well. This is his team, his opportunity."

Cutcliffe emphasized that Harris has the total package as a quarterback.

"He has a lot of skill," he said. "I hear people all the time because he is so quick and fast, say, ‘Oh, he can really run.’ Yes. So could Daniel (Jones). Quentin can really throw. He can really manage a game. He’s all the things we’re looking for in a student-athlete."

Cutcliffe also outlined what his advice for Harris would be, heading into the opener.

"My hope for Quentin is: Don’t go play like you have something to prove. Go be a great teammate. Go out there and do what you’ve done your whole life. What made you love playing quarterback? Continue on that path.”
