Five Blue Devils were in action in Saturday NFL preseason games. We let you know who helped themselves in the quest to win spots in the league.

In addition to catching up with former Duke players, we'll start looking at the Blue Devils of the future with scouting reports on some of the high school players David Cutcliffe and staff are targeting. Look for that later this week.

The numbers don't like Duke football this year. A football analytics site used a statistical model to rate every college team. The Blue Devils are predicted to finish fifth in the Coastal Division, with just a 52 percent chance of making a bowl game. On the bright(ish) side, Duke has a 0.2 percent chance of going undefeated.

The Devils Den took a look at which true freshmen are likely to play this season and who will be slotted for a redshirt. Warning: It's a pay-walled story.

This just in: Dickie V likes Duke. Legendary ESPN college basketball announcer Dick Vitale tweeted out his preseason Sweet 16, and he had Duke ranked No. 4, behind Kansas, Michigan State and Kentucky. Louisville (5), North Carolina (8) and Virginia (10) were the other ACC teams on Vitale's list.

The Chronicle had an interview with Duke assistant Nolan Smith on his future plans to run his own program and a charity event he's helping with.
