Duke basketball staff to visit fast-rising Connecticut prep

In this story:
Only a handful of active Duke basketball recruiting pursuits remain on the 2024 trail. One of the targets is St. Thomas More School (Conn.) small forward Tyler Betsey, who has jumped 62 spots to No. 44 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite since landing an offer from the Blue Devils in early November.
According to a tweet from Cerebro Sports recruiting insider Andrew Slater on Wednesday afternoon, at least one member of the Duke staff will travel to Connecticut to check in on Betsey on Friday. Associate head coach Chris Carrawell is the Blue Devils' primary recruiter for the 6-foot-8, 185-pound four-star, per 247Sports.
Tyler Betsey, a top-shelf sharpshooter and versatile weapon with a reported 7-foot wingspan, has not visited Duke. But the reigning Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year has yet to name finalists in his recruitment — he holds more than a dozen offers, mostly from power-conference schools — or specify a decision timeline.

And by all accounts, he's highly interested in what the program in Durham has to offer under head coach Jon Scheyer.
"They say they can help me with a lot of little things," Betsey told On3's Jamie Shaw a few weeks after receiving the Duke basketball offer. "They say I'm good right now, but I'm just scratching the surface of what I can be...Duke is iconic. Coach K, Cameron Indoor, everybody knows about Duke."
It's worth noting that Betsey is friends with another 2024 Blue Devil target, Don Bosco Prep (N.J.) combo guard Dylan Harper, a five-star who ranks No. 4 overall in the class. They both play for the NY Rens on the Nike EYBL circuit. So one would think a package deal is not out of the question.

At this relatively early juncture in the 2024 cycle, Duke boasts only one commit: Paul VI Catholic (Va.) small forward Darren Harris, a four-star who ranks No. 50.
