Gators DL Assistant Kareem Reid Named Head Coach at McEachern

Florida defensive line quality control assistant Kareem Reid was named the head coach at McEachern High School (Power Springs, Ga.) on Tuesday.

Gators defensive line assistant Kareem Reid was announced as the new head coach of McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., on Tuesday after just one season with the UF program.

"Grateful for the relationships forged and experiences gained in college football these past two years," Reid said in a statement on Twitter. "Learned so much from coach [Gus] Malzahn and coach [Billy] Napier.

"With that said, I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to lead one of the premiere programs in Georgia. I'm back!"

Reid spent the first season of Napier's tenure in Gainesville as a Quality Control staffer on the Gators' defensive line. He played a role in the development of the defensive trenches as a secondary piece to DL coach Sean Spencer during the latest Florida campaign while also contributing in the on-campus recruiting front.

Before that, he operated at UCF — his alma mater where he played from 200406 — as the director of player development in 2021.

After a three-year absence from the scene, the North Miami, Fla., native will return to the high school coaching ranks. He served as a high school head coach from 2007-19 in Florida and Georgia. During that stint, Reid was well-regarded as he led Westlake High School to three straight 2-7A

That resulted in multiple Coach of the Year recognitions for the up-and-coming coaching star in that region in 2016 and 2018. He was also awarded the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Metro Atlanta/Fulton County Coach of the Year accolade in 2016.

Now, after just one year with Florida and two at the college level, Reid is slated to assume the reins at a prominent institution in the Georgia high school ranks, where he will look to rekindle his high-level success.
