Former Florida CB Jalen Kimber Transferring to Louisville

Former Florida cornerback Jalen Kimber will complete his collegiate career with Jeff Brohm and Co. at Louisville.

Former Florida Gators cornerback Jalen Kimber, who entered the transfer portal on Dec. 22, announced Louisville as his transfer destination early Saturday morning.

Spending two seasons at the University of Florida following a transfer from Georgia, Kimber appeared in all 25 games and made 11 starts for the Gators at outside cornerback. He accounted for 36 tackles, seven pass breakups, one fumble recovery and an interception returned for a touchdown during the stint in Gainesville.

Kimber emerged as the clear No. 2 for opposite Jason Marshall Jr. in the Gators cornerback room during the 2023 campaign, overcoming the injury bug that hampered him for a sizable portion of his career at both stops.

Despite notable struggles as a tackler on the boundary, Kimber consistently saw himself in a position to make plays as a coverage man. In the early part of the season, he produced admirably in those situations. Statistically, he was the Gators' leading cover corner through the first four weeks of his redshirt junior year.

But, as the year rolled on, Kimber — like the entirety of the Gators' defense — saw an exponential decline in productivity.

It ultimately resulted in his move away from the program this offseason, as Florida is considerably revamping the defensive backend with new assistant coach Will Harris taking over the secondary.

The promise he flashed at times made way to Cardinals' head coach Jeff Brohm, who plucks Kimber from the open market for his final season of collegiate eligibility in 2024.

Kimber is the 11th member of Florida's 2023 roster to identify a transfer destination this postseason, following quarterback Max Brown (Charlotte), wide receiver Caleb Douglas (Texas Tech), tight end Jonathan Odom (Eastern Michigan), edge rusher Princely Umanmielen (Ole Miss), safety Kamari Wilson (Arizona State), offensive tackle Jordan Herman (Charlotte), defensive back Jadarrius Perkins (Toledo), offensive lineman Jalen Farmer (Kentucky), running back Trevor Etienne (Georgia) and defensive lineman Chris McClellan (Missouri).
