Report: Gators RB Cam Carroll Carted Off Following Scrimmage Injury

In this story:
Gators running back Cam Carroll was carted off the field during Friday’s scrimmage after suffering an apparent lower-body injury, All Gators can confirm.
Carroll’s injury was first reported by Swamp247’s Jacob Rudner.
Florida head coach Billy Napier is expected to address Carroll’s status and that of other injured Gators during his press conference on Saturday. Per the report, teammates gathered around the cart in support of Carroll before he was taken off the field inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Carroll transferred to Florida this offseason after spending five seasons at Tulane. In 37 career games with the Green Wave, Carroll accounted for 1,638 yards and 19 touchdowns on 312 carries, adding 247 yards and five scores on 23 receptions.
He proved dynamic as a third down back, presenting himself as a high upside pass catcher out of the backfield.
In 2021, Carroll caught 17 balls for 198 yards and three touchdowns for his most productive season through the air.
However, after suffering a leg injury in the 2022 season-opener, Carroll was sidelined for the remainder of his redshirt junior season, forced to watch the Green Wave en route a historic season capped off with postseason Cotton Bowl victory over Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans.
He made the decision to enter the transfer portal soon after the winter portal window opened. Forming a relationship with the running backs coach Jabbar Juluke and the Gators staff, Carroll elected to play out his final season of collegiate eligibility in Gainesville.
The Flowood, Miss., native has been expected to fulfill some duties as a leader and change of pace back in the potential four-man running back rotation for the Gators in 2023, led by star backfield duo Trevor Etienne and Montrell Johnson.
However, his availability for doing so is now thrown into question. True freshman Treyaun Webb and junior JUCO transfer Ja’Kobi Jackson align as two pieces who could assume the void if Carroll’s injury proves serious.
Florida is set to kickoff the 2023 season against the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City on Aug. 31.
