Florida Gators, Utah Utes agree to home-and-home series in 2022-23

Dan Mullen and Kyle Whittingham reunite from their days at Utah together in the early 2000s.

Today, Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen told the media that his team is "trying to play more Power 5 teams", rather than face two FCS opponents a year.

Not an hour and a half later, Florida set an agreement to accomplish that.

Pat Dooley of Gatorsports.com reports that Florida has agreed to a home-and-home series with the Utah Utes of the PAC-12 conference.

Per sources, Florida has scheduled non-conference games against @Utah_Football with game in Gainesville in 2022 and Salt Lake City the following year. Plan accordingly.

Utah, who currently ranks 19th in the AP Top 25, has seen success under current head coach Kyle Whittingham, with a 104-50 record since he took over in 2005. They've gone 10-1 in bowl games under Whittingham, with an NCAA record 90.9% bowl game win rate.

Whittingham coincidentally served as the defensive coordinator for Utah when Florida head coach Dan Mullen was on staff as the QB coach, under then Utah head coach and former Gators National Championship-winning head coach Urban Meyer. An obvious connection between the team's current leaders makes this series an intriguing matchup.

The first game will take place at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, FL. Then, Utah will host Florida at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2023.
