Florida suspends four players for season-opener against Miami

The Florida Gators will be without four players for their "Week Zero" season-opener against the Miami Hurricanes.

The team has suspended junior safety Brad Stewart Jr., defensive lineman junior Tedarrell Slaton, redshirt junior receiver Rick Wells, and redshirt sophomore defensive back Pat Moorer. The reasons for the suspensions were undisclosed, but Florida Gators senior writer Scott Carter reports that the players did not live up to the "Gator Standard".

Slaton is listed on the two-deep depth chart as one of the two backup nose tackles. Should starter Kyree Campbell go down against Miami, the position could be in some trouble with just Luke Ancrum as depth, and could force players such as Marlon Dunlap or Jaelin Humphries to play some nose.

Stewart was listed as the backup safety to Jeawon Taylor, but has started in the past and is expected to play in a large role this year. He was named to Pro Football Focus' Preseason second All-SEC team.

Wells, a reserve receiver, has dealt with suspension issues in the past. He has recorded only one reception in his Gators career, so losing him for tonight's game doesn't hurt much - especially considering the depth Florida has at receiver.

Moorer has played in two games during his Florida career, but considering the lack of depth in the Gators secondary, losing another DB is the last thing Florida needs.
