Steve Spurrier: "It was a smart thing" for QB Kyle Trask to stay at Florida

Quarterback Kyle Trask is demanding the respect of just about everyone who has watched him play in place of injured QB Feleipe Franks.
Including the respect of one of the most legendary figures in Florida history: Steve Spurrier.
The Gators former Heisman-winning quarterback and head coach, Spurrier was asked for his opinion on Trask's decision to stay at Florida despite the popular trend for players to enter the transfer portal should they not earn a starting job.
"Kyle is a little different," Spurrier told the media at halftime during the Gators home game against Tennessee. "He didn't have a glamorous high school career, I think he came to camp here and they really liked him. I think he's a smart kid... He knows the advantages of staying here at Florida. It was a smart thing to do."
Trask signed with Florida as part of the 2016 class after spending his varsity days as a backup QB to D'Eriq King (now at Houston) at Manvel High School. Today marked Trask's first start since he was on Manvel's freshman team seven years ago, and he performed well, going 20-28 for 293 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. At halftime, Trask had only thrown two incompletions on 14 attempts. Florida went on to beat Tennessee by a score of 34-3..
