The Gators haven't shied away from targeting the state of Louisiana since Billy Napier and Co. traveled from Lafayette to Gainesville in December 2021.
Specifically, former LSU defensive backs coach and current UF secondary coach Corey Raymond has continued to make his presence in The Boot known as he targets top-tier DBs to fill spots in the third level of Florida's defense.
That's trend will continue in the 2024 class. The latest example is John Ehret High School (Marrero, La.) cornerback Wardell Mack, who recently scheduled an unofficial visit to the University of Florida for April 8, All Gators confirmed.
He is freshly removed from receiving his offer from the Sunshine State program on March 9.
Mack serves as one of the most athletic defensive back options in the 2024 class with desirable length, speed and ball-hawking ability to be a difference maker from the boundary corner position. Similar to pieces the Gators have brought in of late, the just over 6-foot, 175-pound DB matches up well in man-to-man while also producing in zone coverage.
His strong ball skills make him a threat to slide around the secondary for whichever team he suits up for. He's excelled on both sides of the field for John Ehret, doubling as a wide receiver where he's shown equally impressive playmaking ability.
That versatility is a coveted aspect of his collegiate skill set.
Running backs Jabbar Juluke, the area recruiter, and newly named defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong, his former primary recruiter to Alabama, will also play vital roles in luring him to UF.
Florida is the latest school to enter the sweepstakes for Mack, joining 18 other programs in the hunt for the talented athletes pledge. But, luckily for Florida, Raymond's track of development and imprint on Mack's home state from his time with the Tigers could pay dividends.
Florida is expected to assume a prominent role in his recruitment moving forward.
The visit to Gainesville in early April will mark the beginning of that process as both sides meet face-to-face for the first time.
