GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Consensus three-star safety commit Josiah Davis of Berrien High School (Nashville, Ga.) became the latest signee to the Florida Gators 2024 recruiting class after signing his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday morning.

He committed to Florida on March 27 over finalists Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisville and North Carolina State. 247Sports ranks the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Davis as the No. 40 overall safety in the 2024 class.

Following the recent flip of five-star safety recruit Xavier Filsaime to Texas as well as the outgoing transfers of Miguel Mitchell and Kamari Wilson, Davis' signing has gained further significance as UF continues to rebuild its safety room under new secondary coach, Will Harris.

He will likely begin his career on special teams and in a backup role after Jordan Castell locked up a starting spot and Bryce Thornton began to see more playing time during their freshmen 2023 seasons.

Davis joins Florida alongside Oregon transfer Trikweze Bridges, who intends to transition back to his former position of safety within the Gators' defense, from cornerback.

A high-potential piece in the backend. Davis has flashed dynamic playmaking abilities — accounting for 28 total offensive touchdowns to pair with 159 tackles, one sack, five tackles for loss, two interceptions and seven pass breakups defensively over three varsity seasons with Berrien. He's a natural athlete with the ability to contribute in all three phases at the next level if the program elects to do so. At Florida, he’ll occupy time on special teams as a gunner and/or return man while being developed for an eventual starting role at safety. There, he can use his instinctual talent to hunt the ball through the air and on the ground.
