The Florida Gators are vying to acquire Brookline, Mass. product Liam Andrews as a member of their 2024 recruiting class to protect future franchise quarterback DJ Lagway

On Friday, the top-five interior offensive line prospect named UF among the eight programs in contention for his services. LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, South Carolina and Wisconsin round out the list.

"Florida is another team recruiting me for both sides of the ball," Andrews told On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett. "They are a team that has had a lot of success in the 2024 recruiting cycle and a team I think could rise up in the SEC. They play top-tier competition in the SEC and offer a great degree as well."

Standing at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds, Andrews occupies spots in the trenches on both sides of the ball at Dexter School, showcasing versatility, athleticism and an aggressive play style needed to set the tone on either front at the next level. He best projects to serve along the interior offensive line despite his standing on the outside in high school, given the limitations his frame holds relative to those who occupy the tackle position, especially in the SEC.

His length, twitch and football IQ, given his well-versed experience on the other side of the ball, will allow him to make the move to guard easily.

Ranked as the nation's No. 82 player and No. 4 iOL, according to 247 Sports, the four-star prospect would be a promising addition to the Gators' frontline if he chose UF.

Andrews visited the University of Florida this spring, growing in his relationship with the Gators duo of offensive line coaches, Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton, while forming a bond with defensive line coach Sean Spencer  — who helps recruit the northeast region the Massachusetts native occupies.

Having yet to schedule official visits to prospective schools, Andrews is expected to remain on the open market over the next few months. It will give the Gators time to close Penn State's presumed lead for his services over the other eight schools in the mix.

Currently, there is no timeline set for Andrews' pledge.
