OL Marcus Mascoll Commits to the Florida Gators

Once billed as a “hidden gem” at offensive tackle in the recruiting class currently in focus, South Gwinnett (Ga.) product Marcus Mascoll has a long-standing spot atop the Gators OT wishlist.
On Monday, amid impressive and unprecedented recruiting momentum for Billy Napier’s tenure at UF, Florida cashed in on their wish to lure Mascoll into the fold of committed talent.
He chose Florida over the other members of his top three: LSU and NC State.
Taking an official visit to the University of Florida, Mascoll got the opportunity to further build his rapport with the duo of offensive line coaches in Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton.
Their message to him during that multi-day stay was simple: They believe in him, and have the tools to mold him into the high-caliber OL they think he can be.
"They're all great dudes,” he told All Gators freshly removed from his official stay in Gainesville. “You know, they all believe in me. That's one thing they emphasized, they believe in me. It means a lot from them, just the fact that they believe in me and that they can take me to that next level."
Since the staff’s comment of Mascoll being a sleeper prospect in the 2024 class, the Peach State talent has seen his recruitment surge as several big-time suitors joined the fold over the spring.
However, the Gators' early entry into the process helped keep the program atop his shortlist of contenders while he browsed the market for which school fit him best.
He narrowed down his option to Florida, LSU and NC State on June 5, marking a major milestone as he approached his commitment decision. Just a few days later, Mascoll shared with All Gators his intentions to shut it down on June 19, immediately following his final official visit — taking one to each of the three prospective programs in the process.
While he shared that LSU was his leader after his June 9-11 stay in Gainesville, throwing a curveball to limit the buzz surrounding his potential alignment with Florida, the Gators were consistently the team to beat for his services.
Sale and Stapleton’s development plan for him played a crucial role in that reality.
"They mainly talked about my development,” he said. “I got to see their plan for how they develop linemen. They have phases throughout the season, they showed me that phase and it made me believe that they can really take it to the next level."
Mascoll will align at guard or tackle at the next level, utilizing his versatility to give UF a strong depth piece in the offensive trenches. At 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, Mascoll presents the coveted size the Gators have targeted on the exterior.
He’ll likely start at tackle with the luxury to swing inside based off need. He looks forward to that challenge.
"I can play guard, tackle, you know. I'm versatile, so I can play wherever on the O-line," he told AG.
Mascoll becomes the 15th addition to a surging 2024 recruiting class at Florida, and the sixth since Saturday.
He is the third offensive line commit to share his pledge to the program, and undoubtedly the biggest win in that area for Sale and Stapleton of the cycle.
