In this story:

Florida Gators safety target Josiah Davis is down to five schools, he announced on Saturday morning, and will share his commitment decision on Monday at 2:30 p.m. EST.

Davis shrinks his 16 team offer sheet to just five to include Kentucky, Louisville, NC State and Tennessee alongside Florida.

Davis, albeit ranking as a high three-star per 247 composite, is considered one of the top talents on Florida’s safety recruitment board this cycle.

Possessing the athleticism, versatility, length and speed necessary to compete on the back end at the next level, the Nashville, Ga., product is a coveted piece to the puzzle for the Gators defense moving forward.

In 2022, Davis performed in voluminous capacity by occupying spots in all three phases of the game. He rushed for 895 yards and 12 touchdowns on 104 attempts offensively, totaled 70 tackles and one interception — returned for a score — and took back seven kickoffs for touchdowns.

His productivity at Berrien High School drew eyes from several power five programs this past year. For Florida, the prowess on special teams could aid its documented struggles in the third phase of the game for the past few seasons.

At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, he fits the billing of talent secondary coach Corey Raymond looks for when targeting third-level prospects.

Currently, the Gators hold commitments from four players in the 2024 cycle, including quarterback DJ Lagway, running back Chauncey Bowens, linebacker Myles Graham and linebacker Adarius Hayes.

Davis could be the latest asset to join the foundation of Florida’s class if he were to choose orange and blue threads to continue his playing career on Monday afternoon.
