Mike Norvell Reveals 2 FSU Football Freshmen Who Will Play Early in 2026

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida State Seminoles moved past the halfway point in spring camp following Tuesday's practice as they look ahead toward their second scrimmage in the month of April. Florida State's offensive attack through the air will likely be led by Duce Robinson and Michahi Danzy, leaving room for freshmen and underclassmen to fight their way into the rotation.
Mike Norvell Says FSU Freshman Wideouts ‘Are Going to Play’

True freshmen wide receivers Jasen Lopez and Devin Carter have repeatedly been mentioned by head coach Mike Norvell since they arrived on campus ahead of spring. While neither may be penciled in as an immediate starter, Norvell said both have shown enough through the first half of spring camp to believe they’ll factor into the rotation this fall.
"Devin and Jasen, they’re going to play," Norvell said to the media on Tuesday. "They would have to almost regress from where it is right now. And I’m not saying, ‘Oh, hey, they’re going to be first line,’ I think it’ll be that, but from what you see in a short period of time, they definitely belong in what we’re asking them to do, what that looks like.”
The Duo Continues to Push for Reps

The duo of freshmen has continued to battle for reps with the ones and the twos throughout the first eight practices, and it's not just isolated moments. They’re beginning to earn more meaningful opportunities as spring camp rolls on, regardless of who is lining up on the other side of the ball. Still, Norvell acknowledged that they still have a way to go as they move up in the rotation, but the early consistency from the young receivers has allowed them to push for spots rather than simply develop behind the scenes.
"You start where you start, and then you move up. When you’re productive, coming in and whoever it is that you’re going against, you get better opportunities," Norvell continued. "Those guys, we’re pushing them. So yeah, they’re positioning themselves to be highly competitive in the rotation."
Lopez and Carter aren't the only pass catchers who have turned heads this spring. Darryon Williams has flashed in moments and Norvell says that all of his underclassmen are rising to the challenge.
"I’m not seeing them get flustered by a good play or a bad play. They’ve got plenty of bad plays that we had to grow through, but they’re not hanging their head. They’re not getting stuck in the moment. They’re just out there playing football, trying to get better, and have done a good job."
FSU resumes spring practice on Thursday, April 2, with its second scrimmage set to take place on Saturday, April 4.
