Former FSU Football Star Projected To Land With Buccaneers in NFL Draft

Could the former Seminole be staying in the Sunshine State to begin his professional career?

The Florida State Seminoles saw an incredible 13-0, ACC Championship-winning season spoiled by an eventual 63-3 loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl. They were without the majority of their NFL-caliber players, as they saw no reason to play in the bowl game after the team was snubbed in the College Football Playoffs.

One of the NFL opt-outs was Keon Coleman, a star wide receiver transfer from Michigan State who thrived in his time in Tallahassee. By the season's end, he had been included in the first round of the majority of 2024 NFL mock drafts.

CBS Sports recently released a mock draft, which saw the Seminoles star receiver being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with pick No. 26.

"Coleman is the big-bodied weapon the Buccaneers clearly like to feature in their offense," CBS Sports wrote.

While Coleman is a scheme fit, a lot of this would rely on what the future of the Buccaneers looks like. They had a 9-8 season with a huge win over the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round. Still, it might be time for the Buccaneers to hit the rebuild button.

There's a chance that Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales gets hired away from the franchise, which would jeopardize their ability to re-sign star wide receiver Mike Evans and quarterback Baker Mayfield.

For Coleman, he'd be a great feature in an offense, but getting to the right situation to be utilized more will be huge for him. As a three-year college player, he's got plenty of potential to grow in the league as he's going to be one of the younger draft prospects.

Coleman tallied 658 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns with 50 receptions in his 12 games played with Florida State. He had an impressive sophomore year with Michigan State after playing much less his freshman season.
