Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently released a list of proposed trades and former Florida State star defensive end and current Carolina Panther Brian Burns could be on the move as teams look to bolster their rosters mid-season.
Baltimore's homegrown pass rushers have struggled to stay healthy, and the Ravens could use a jolt as they try to keep hold of the tight AFC North. They're also unafraid to make an in-season splash (see: Roquan Smith). Burns is valued in Carolina, but without a long-term deal, his ability to net premium picks could be vital; the Panthers don't currently own a 2024 first-rounder. This deal would of course be dependent on Baltimore immediately inking Burns to a new contract.
A proposed deal with the Ravens would place Burns on a 4-2 Baltimore squad in the AFC North if the Ravens were willing to give up a 2024 first and third-round draft pick in exchange.
The two-time Pro Bowler currently has 20 tackles, four sacks, and a forced fumble on the season but even with his production, the Panthers are 0-6 this year and have question marks that could be answered with a first-round selection.
In any instance, both teams would need to act fast as the Panthers are slated to take on a 3-3 Texans squad on October 29 and the Ravens will play the Detroit Lions on the 22nd and the St. Louis Cardinals on the 29th.
Burns was taken 16th overall in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft after spending multiple seasons at Florida State, earning First-Team All-ACC honors. He is on the Panther's all-time sack list and has a career total of 216 tackles, 42 sacks, eight forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a defensive touchdown.
