WATCH: MASSIVE 2027 Center Talks Early Recruitment

There were loads of talent this weekend out at the 2024 NEGA 2024 Classic, including a 6' 6" center from Gainesville High School.

Dawgs Daily's Ethan Offutt was out at the NEGA 2024 Classic this weekend at Pinecrest Academy with loads of 2027 prospects. One of those prospects that stood out the most was Carter Mathis, a 6' 6" center from Gainesville High School. Offutt spoke with Mathis after the first practice leading into the second practice on Saturday and then again after the game on Sunday.

One thing that stood out was his immediate ability to improvise his play on the fly. His second practice was better snapping-wise after having a rough go at it, and then improved even more on game day, keeping the low snaps to a minimum. He also showed that ability in the post-game talks with Offutt.

Mathis' stature is exactly what it sounds like — a towering 6' 6" and a nice 280 pounds. He could use a tad more weight, but he also has more growing to do. Still, colleges have begun to notice him. He's been on a few gameday visits through his freshman season but had this to say about some of them.

"I'd have to say Clemson was my favorite because more coaches were there to explain the recruiting process and how they go about it." when asked about Georgia, he said, "They were good; they were probably my second favorite. They treated their players really well, so they're probably number one."

Mathis has a road of development laid in front of him, but he will be a future Power 5 prospect that Georgia fans will need to keep their eye on throughout his high school career.
