BREAKING: Five-Star Asa Newell Commits to Georgia

2024 five-star power forward Asa Newell has announced his commitment to the University of Georgia.

While Georgia football is the current rave in the city of Athens right now, Mike White and the basketball program have started to make some noise of their own. The Bulldogs pieced together a solid 2023 class with a mixture of seasoned transfers from the portal and several impactful high school players, but they just got their biggest commitment of the Coach White era. Five-star Asa Newell has announced his commitment to the University of Georgia.

Newell is rated as the eighth-best player in the country and the second-best power forward in the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247 Composite Rankings. The highly touted recruit out of Montverde Academy chose the Bulldogs over Alabama, Gonzaga and Texas.

He took an official visit to Georgia in early October, which might have helped seal the deal for the Bulldogs to land the top prospect. Newell's older brother Jaden, is a current walk-on for the Bulldogs.

The Georgia men's basketball program made the transition to Mike White as head coach a season ago in hopes of elevating to newer and better heights. Now after signing a very respectable class in 2023 and landing Newell for the 2024 class, White is living up to the expectations on the trail. Now it is just a matter of translating that to floor.

During the 2023 SEC media days, Georgia was picked to finish ninth in the conference by media members. In 2022, the Bulldogs posted a 16-16 record and finished 11th in the conference. They will kick off their 2023 season on Nov. 6 against the Oregon Ducks.
