Lawrence Cager had himself quite a day Saturday in Jacksonville against the Gators, his 7 receptions for 132 yards and a TD were pivotal in the win over Florida.

It was a statistically special day for Cager:

  • (7) receptions set a new career record.
  • (132) receiving yards set new single-game high.
  • (26) receptions on the season break his previous season-high
  • (377) receiving yards on the season break his previous season-high

This offseason, most people knew Lawrence Cager would provide the senior leadership, alongside Tyler Simmons, that Georgia would need surrounding that young group headed into this season, but few knew he'd be this good.

He now leads the Bulldogs in receptions (26), yards (377), and receiving touchdowns (4) having played just six of the eight games. He is trailed closely by George Pickens in both receptions and yards.

We forecasted this offseason that Lawrence Cager physically fit the bill for this Georgia offense that requires big-bodied receivers on the outside, guys that can win heavily contested balls and guys who excel on back-shoulder throws.

One thing we couldn't forecast however is the relationship that Fromm and Cager have developed. Fromm has begun to look for Cager during the game's most pivotal snaps. Saturday night, Fromm connected with Cager on three third downs including a 3 & 14 on the game's opening drive.

As most will recall, Cager was questionable heading into this matchup as he was battling a lingering left-shoulder injury along with a rib injury. Though, Coach Kirby Smart did say during his post-game press conference that he was primarily concerned with Cager's ability to hold up in terms of his conditioning.

Having not played since the South Carolina matchup, then to hold up in a four-quarter fistfight of a football game is a testament to the "warrior" spirit that Smart alluded to Saturday night.

Cager, already having a career year with four regular-season games remaining, is priming himself for a great send-off into the NFL.
