What Type of Season Could Carson Beck Have In His First Year Starting

Kirby Smart has found the next Georgia quarterback to lead the Bulldog offense. Jacksonville, FL, native Carson Beck, is the new gunslinger in Athens, and it is an offense that will be primed to explode in 2023. Kirby Smart announced this during his press conference this afternoon following Georgia's second fall camp scrimmage. What type of season could he have in his first year starting?

2023 brings a ton of new looks for the Georgia Bulldogs, with a new offensive coordinator, new wide receiver additions, a new left tackle, and a new quarterback. Beck has 11 games of total experience but has made the most of his time when put in, but it has been a bit of a journey on his way to Georgia. The 4-star quarterback led a previously 2-8 high school team to their first state championship in school history, throwing for 3,546 yards, 39 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 8A Florida football.

That type of career earned hi.m a spot at Georgia in the 2020 class, where he had to sit behind JT Daniels, D'wan Mathis, Stetson Bennett, and Jamie Newman leading up to this point. In the limited playing time received behind those players, Beck has racked up 486 yards and six touchdowns.

The Dawgs could possibly be primed for a wide receiver to hit 1,000 yards and for the tight ends to have a breakout season under Mike Bobo. Bobo's track record shows he loves to give the ball to his team's best playmakers, but one person has to distribute that ball, the quarterback. Beck will lead Bobo's offense until he proves otherwise, and his numbers could shoot through the roof.

Bobo had some notable quarterbacks in his first run as Georgia OC, such as Matthew Stafford, Aaron Murray, Joe Cox, and Hutson Mason. Let's look at Bobo's previous quarterback's first-year numbers to understand how Beck will shine in his first year as a starter with Bobo.

Stafford threw for 2,523 yards, 19 touchdowns, and ten interceptions. Murray threw for 3,049 yards, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while completing 61% of his passes. Cox and Mason's careers were served more as backups to Stafford and Murray, but both careers went well. Cox tossed the pigskin for 2,584 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Mason threw it for 2,168 yards, 21 touchdowns, and four interceptions while completing 68% of his passes.

Beck may not be the caliber player of Stafford or Murray for the state college football was in during each of their respective careers, but Beck has all the surrounding weapons to throw for the same amount of yardage as the UGA greats, if not more.
