Georgia Basketball: Stegmania Offers a First-Look of Revamped Roster

The Georgia Bulldogs' '19-'20 season is now somewhat underway with Stegmania now being in the past. While most fans will look back and remember the night for the dunk and three-point contests, the scrimmage was the most important part of the entire event.
The dunk contest might tell who the more athletic guys on the team are, but they don't quite tell the story. However, the 12-minute scrimmage did paint a bigger picture of what the Bulldogs might look like this season.

Prior to the scrimmage, Tom Crean told the fans that despite the team being one of the more younger groups in the country, this team would make it up with hustling and outworking other teams.
While it was very brief scrimmage, the Bulldogs played great in transition, hustled for rebounds and loose balls, and created space for open shots or passing lanes to generate offense. In simpler terms, the team looked a lot more managed in comparison to last season.
First, we have to address the elephant in the room in Anthony Edwards.
His team didn't win, but Edwards was able to control the scrimmage from start to finish. Edwards can score at will, whether that be creating a shot off of the dribble or taking it to the rim. He also used the pick-and-roll from time to time to find an open man and get an assist. But what makes Edwards a special player is that he can match his offensive game with the same intensity on defense. He stays step-for-step with ball handlers, which even led to a couple of steals for him. If Edwards can continue to play basketball like he did Friday night, Georgia will have a great season.
In addition to Edwards, Georgia fans were also able to get a chance to see what some of the other freshmen are capable of.
Guys like Toumani Camara and Mike Peake were relentless with the rebounds, and also combined for 3 putback dunks. The two also showed a defensive side to their game with some blocked shots off of the glass. It's unclear what each of these guys' roles will be this season. However, Camara is starting to live up to the NBA Draft hype that he received this past offseason with his performance at Stegmania.
Also out there on Friday were former four-star small forwards, Jaykwon Walton and Christian Brown. Walton showcased his knockdown three-point shot while Brown pestered his teammates with his "sneakiness" on defense. It seemed like if there was a loose ball somewhere, it was because Brown forced it. These two will have other parts come to their game eventually, but they will have to develop throughout the season.

While Tom Crean will have to make adjustments throughout the next couple of months, we know that he'll play at an up-tempo pace. Now, with a more experienced and talented group of guards, the Bulldogs should be more efficient overall this season. They might not be the most talented group in the country, but this team will cause problems with their physicalness and grit.
The Georgia Bulldogs officially tip-off their regular season in 24 days against Western Carolina.
