Georgia Football Begins 2023 Fall Camp

The Georgia Bulldogs' 2023 season is officially underway as players report to campus for fall camp.

It's here.

The Georgia Bulldogs' quest for a third straight national title is officially underway as players and coaches have reported for the first day of fall camp. This means that in just a few short weeks, it will once again be time to tee it up "Between the Hedges".

"Fall camp" is a term that is used for the series of practices that a football team goes through in anticipation of the season. Oftentimes, players will spend entire days completing vigorous workouts, conditioning periods, and fully padded practices in order to get acclimated and prepared for the long season ahead.

While the goal for Kirby Smart and his staff remains the same (win a national title), this year's Bulldogs squad will feature many new faces. Most notably on the offensive side of the ball, as the departure of legendary quarterback, Stetson Bennett has left a vacancy in the quarterback position that has yet (officially) to be filled.

Offensive coordinator Todd Monken also exited the Bulldogs' program this year. As he accepted an offensive coordinator job in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. Monken's departure allowed for former Georgia quarterback and teammate of head coach Kirby Smart, Mike Bobo to re-take the reins of the Georgia offense as he did many years ago under Mark Richt.

On defense, the Bulldogs return their stout linebacker core from a year ago, along with some key components in the secondary such as Kamari Lassiter and Malaki Starks. However, the Dawgs will also be missing a few major contributors as Nolan Smith and Jalen Carter were both selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Leaving some major holes in the front end of Georgia's defense.

Luckily, Kirby Smart was able to retain co-defensive coordinators Will Muschamp and Glenn Schumann as well as a multitude of other defensive veterans such as Dan Jackson, Tykee Smith, Zion Logue, and others whose experience will be a major catalyst for Georgia's defensive success this year.

The Georgia Bulldogs, while abundantly talented and restless for success will admittedly have a lot of work to do before their first official game on Sept. 2 against UT Martin. Luckily for Smart and his staff, there is still ample time for improvements and roster updates to be made.
