Shone Washington No Longer With the Team

Georgia football defensive lineman Shone Washington is reportedly no longer with the program.

Heading into Spring practice, a big question for the Georgia Bulldogs was who would step up at the interior defensive line with Jalen Carter now off to the NFL. A lot of names will be in the mix to earn snaps, but that list just got shorter as sources have confirmed that Shone Washington is no longer with the team.

Washington was a part of the 2022 recruiting class for the Bulldogs. He was listed as a three-star prospect coming out of high school and ranked as the 84th lineman in the class. According to his UGA player profile, Washington saw action as a reserve against Samford early into the 2022 season and tallied one solo tackle in that game.

The Louisiana native was expected to be a major player in the battle at the defensive line this Spring, but that will no longer be the case. It will be a position battle that s expected to be very tight this Spring just got a little tighter, and the door remains open for other defensive linemen to take advantage of the opportunity. That spot on the roster is mixed with several veteran players along with young athletes who are still trying to find their groove in college football.

This is really the first time in a few years that Georgia will have to figure out who the big names up front defensively will be. Davis, Wyatt and Carter held down the fort for a while, but now it's time to see who steps up for the Bulldogs this go around. Defensive line coach Tray Scott has loaded down that depth chart with tremendous football players, and it will be a battle to watch this Spring.

While the future of Washington's collegiate football career is uncertain for the time being, it can be assumed that his name will eventually be entered into the transfer portal. Year two looked to be a huge opportunity for Washington to get his name into the rotation on defense, but that will no longer be the case with the latest news.
