The Georgia Football program is set to participate in the biggest game of the college football season. When ESPN's College GameDay is in town, you know that a big game is about to take place.

Reece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corse, and former UGA star David Pollock are set to bring their knowledge and enthusiasm to Athens Saturday, as the Georgia Bulldogs do battle with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

The famous UGA Spike Squad has called for a blackout for the monumental matchup. Despite some trepidation among the fan base and football program, their request should be fully honored.

As the above tweet shows, the UGA Spike Squad is rapidly spreading the word throughout social media, urging the Georgia Bulldogs fans to wear black for Saturday night's game. The tweet was just one of many that the squad has composed. They have also retweeted many tweets about the subject.

Some fans have reservations about the team donning the black alternate jerseys for big games. However, those concerns are unmerited. Since 2007 the Dawgs have worn black jerseys four times and their record is 3-1. This includes big wins over Auburn in 2007 and Hawaii in the 2008 Sugar Bowl.

It is the lone defeat that has some fans worried. In 2008 the Georgia Bulldogs opened up the season as the number one team in the country. The Alabama Crimson Tide came to town and by halftime, the score was 31-0. The Dawgs fought back but fell 30-41.

Following the Alabama Debacle, the black jerseys disappeared for eight years. They made a return in 2016 in a win against Louisiana-Lafayette, and have not been worn since.

Despite the record, some fans still associate the black jerseys with bad luck. However, the of the matter fact is, starting slowly against top 25 opponents was a hallmark of UGA Squads under the previous coaching staff.

Now it is 2019 and Kirby Smart has elevated the Georgia Bulldogs' talent to new levels. This year's rendition of the Dawgs has as much talent and depth, as any team in the history of UGA football.

The fact that 10 skill position players have scored touchdowns on offense, is a major indication of the Bulldogs' depth. Ten different defenders have registered at least one-half sack and 35 players have made a tackle or more, showing the strength of the defense.

There will be an additional 500 seats in the stands, allowing a new attendance record to be set for Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium. There will be over 70 recruits and a plethora of UGA player alumni in attendance. The venue will even debut new red led lights for the game.

This is a different time and era of Georgia Football, there is no need to fear. The atmosphere will be electric. There is no better time.

I am confident that a high percentage of the fan base will wear black to Saturday's showdown. The Dawgs coaches should absolutely follow suit and allow the players to wear the black jerseys against Notre Dame.

Besides black attire will be most appropriate, to help the Fighting Irish fans who make the trip to Athens, mourn the loss that the Georgia Bulldogs are about to hand Notre Dame. Go Dawgs!
