REPORT: Which Freshman Could Make An Impact In Year One

The freshman class at Georgia is fully enrolled and involved in fall camp practices. There are a few names worth mentioning who could make an immediate impact.

Fall camp is in full swing for the University of Georgia, and freshmen are having their first taste of what a college football season is like. But, some are not shying away from the pressure and are impressing early into camp. These freshmen could immediately impact in year one of their college careers. 

Pearce Spurlin was an early enrolee but got injured early into spring practice. "Seaside Spurlin," as Kirby Smart dubbed him at practice, has some areas still to learn about the tight end position. Todd Hartley mentioned this when speaking to the media yesterday: "Pearce played receiver in high school. He has come in and embraced his role and is learning to play the position.  I'm very excited and pleased with how [he] has performed to this point." If Spurlin "learns" from Bowers how Hartley hopes he does, in the way to attack film and preparation, "seaside" could develop into a true threat. 

Samuel M'Pemba and Gabe Harris have the opportunity to see immediate playing time at inside linebacker. Glenn Schumann was asked about this in his press conference yesterday and had some positive comments about the two. 

"Consistency decides who is able to help us. Everybody, no matter how experienced they are, still has a long way to go as far as the consistency we expect or the standard. Those guys flash, those guys have ability, they have traits whether it's in pass rush or run defense, and they are embracing what they are asking of them. But I can't tell you right now at practice six who will be able to contribute for us."

Damon Wilson Jr. was also involved in that question and has proven that he can win as a pass rusher this fall camp. Schumann was also asked why he recruited the three players mentioned. Schumann mentioned how they are "versatile in their skill set" and "not limited in doing one thing." With a lack of depth at the JACK position, if Wilson continues progressing, he could get loads of playing time. 

According to all indicators, Joenel Aguero will receive playing time this season. As reported by Dawgs Daily in spring practice, Aguero was practicing at STAR and safety for Schumann's defense. With Javon Bullard returning to safety full-time, the STAR spot is up for grabs. Aguero could break out at that spot this season and could be another true freshman in the Dawgs' secondary to do so. This could help in recruiting terms and show prospects it is possible to play early, as long as you are willing to compete for it. 

Although it is early into fall camp, early signs show they could have a few freshmen that make their presence felt on the football field this upcoming season.
