Georgia's Ascent Up the 'Weeks at AP No. 1" List Continues

Georgia took over the No. 10 spot one the "weeks at AP No. 1" list on Sunday when the media poll kept the Bulldogs on top.

Kirby Smart's 100th game as Georgia's head coach wasn't the only history made this weekend. The Bulldogs' ascent up the "weeks at AP No. 1" continued on Sunday as the oldest media poll in college football kept them on top for the fourth time this season

They overtook bitter-rival Florida for No. 10 all-time with 42 weeks at the No. 1 spot, kicking the Gators out of the top 10 in the process. Barring a loss, or the media simply voting for someone else, Georgia's isn't finished climbing the list this season. Texas sits in ninth place with 45 weeks all-time. Coincidentally, Texas may also be Georgia's biggest threat to its No. 1 ranking this season.

Georgia has absolutely soared up this list in recent years. Entering the 2021 season, it had only spent 15 weeks all-time as the No. 1 team in the AP Poll. Good enough to be tied for 20th with Washington.

Since week six of the 2021 season, Georgia has spent a total of 30 weeks as the No. 1 team, as opposed to just three weeks outside the No. 1 spot. In the process, the Bulldogs had surpassed Minnesota, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Clemson, Army, Michigan State, Michigan and LSU entering this season. That's a side effect of winning 37 of the previous 38 games.

Texas is the only other team available to overtake this season. At its current pace, Georgia won't surpass Miami (68 weeks), Nebraska (70 weeks) and Florida State (72 weeks) until 2025.
