Georgia vs. UT Martin - What to Expect

In this story:
It's finally here. Week one of college football has finally arrived, and Georgia's football program will begin its journey of defending its back-to-back national titles while chasing after a third. The Bulldogs' week one matchup may not have the same anticipation as their last two season openers against Oregon and Clemson, but a lot can be learned during this week's football game between the hedges.
A good amount of rotation can be expected at nearly every position. Opening up with an opponent like UT Martin is a great opportunity to get a lot of players in-game reps and to get a better feel of how the depth chart will shape out before Georgia's first conference game against South Carolina rolls up on the schedule.
With that being said, any players who are dealing with injuries heading into week one will likely either not see the field at all or will be on a limited snap count. Linebacker Smael Mondon has been dealing with a foot injury, and while he could probably go on Saturday, it should be expected that Georgia's staff holds off on letting him see the field against UT Martin. As for running back Kendall Milton, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury, Smart announced that he took his non-contact jersey off at practice this week, so fans might see No. 2 getting some touches on Saturday.
With that being said, viewers should expect to see a good bit of Cash Jones and freshman Roderick Robinson out of the backfield this weekend. And with Mondon likely not playing, Xavian Sorey will step into his place on defense.
Quarterback play is perhaps what fans and media members are most eager to see from the Bulldogs this weekend. Carson Beck will get his first collegiate start against UT Martin, but it can also be expected that Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton will also see the field. Fans can expect Beck to take all of the snaps in the first half with the offense and maybe one or two more in the third quarter. After that, the reigns of the offense will be handed over to the second-string quarterback, which will likely be Vandagriff. He will get a couple of series to really run the offense before head coach Kirby Smart starts keeping the ball on the ground to chew the clock.
To no surprise, Georgia is expected to win by a wide margin on Saturday and ease their way into the 2023 regular season. Saturday will be a day full of new faces, new personnel lineups, and answering any lingering questions that Coach Smart and his staff might have about the roster going into the season.
