Dawgs Daily is here in Nashville, Tennessee, for this week's slate of SEC Media Days. Coaches and players from all 14 teams in the conference will be taking the podium to speak about the upcoming season and to provide a glimpse of what this year has in store for their program prior to the 2023 college football season being kicked off.

It was Kirby Smart's turn to speak to the media today. During his address to the media, Smart touched on a multitude of points regarding his team which included avoiding complacency, the leaders on his team this season, along with his relationship with defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann.

"First off Glenn Schumann is an incredible man and person. You know, he's a graduate of Alabama. He came there on the Bear Bryant scholarship. His dad played football at Alabama. He's the son of a football coach. He's extremely bright. He's extremely passionate. I rely heavily on Glenn for input on practice schedules, defensive design, and thinking outside the box. There's not a time when I think of who can I ask my staff that understands what we want and what we need when Schu [Schumann] is that guy. He's very talented."

Smart and Schumann have worked together for a handful of years now on multiple different teams. The duo first worked together at the University of Alabama under head coach Nick Saban until Smart hired Schumann as a linebacker coach when he took the job at the University of Georgia.

Under Schumann, the Bulldogs' defense held opponents to an average of just 14.27 points per game and produced two first-round picks in the 2023 NFL Draft.
