BREAKING: 5-Star Defensive Lineman LJ McCray Announces Commitment to Florida

In one of the more exciting recruitment processes in recent memory, one of the nation's top defensive linemen, 5-star LJ McCray, has announced his college decision. The 6' 6" 260 pound Daytona Beach, FL native has announced his commitment to the University of Florida.

With a top five that came down to Auburn, Georgia, Miami, Florida, and Florida State, the time leading up to his announcement seemed like McCray would be going with the Seminoles, the Bulldogs, or possibly even the Gators. Now that the decision has been made, McCray has landed with the Gators / Seminoles.

Currently, Billy Napier and the Gators have the third-best recruiting class in 2024. They have been spending a lot of their recruiting capital beefing up their front seven, with 7 of their 21 commits being a linebacker or a defensive lineman. McCray will be joining Amaris Williams, Nasir Johnson, and Kendall Jackson on the defensive line in that class, and joins DJ Lagway and Xavier Filsaime as the third five-star Napier has been able to nab.

With 27 total commits for the Georgia Bulldogs after Ondre Evans flipped his commitment from LSU, Kirby Smart and the Dawgs don't have much room to spare in regards to their schoalrship budget and are saving pspots for prospects they truly believe they can land and can make an immedeaite impact for the team. They still hold the number one recruiting class for 2024 and will look to hold everyone they currently have committed as the early signing period approaches.
